Yangshuo (AKA Jurassic Park)

If you’re looking for the typical, picturesque, Guilin landscape that you may or may not have seen on Google searches or travel websites, you won’t really find it in Guilin.  You’ll find it in Yangshuo.

On our 4th day of independent travel (after the infamous Longji rice terrace 10-mile hike), we opted for a relaxing day in the nearby fishing village, Yangshuo.  The landscape here is basically the entire reason we decided to visit Guilin at all.  We took a small boat cruise on the Li River, and afterwords we walked around the little city, stopping at shops, window shopping, and practicing our bargaining.  We had an awesome little dinner there, too.

Overall it was a really relaxing day and I don’t have a ton to say about it, other than I hope I get to go back there sometime because it was soooo beautiful!  And also because I feel like we didn’t get to see nearly as much as there was to see, especially since we were only there for one day.  So maybe I’ll just add “returning to Yangshuo” to my bucket list 😉

Managed to get a group selfie! Even our boat driver got in the shot, haha.

It was kind of a yucky day. It may have taken away from the pictures, but it was still super cool in person.

Sarah was convinced this was a bridge. We weren’t so sure. (you might have to be an Alliance student to understand this joke and if you’re not I apologize.)

It looked so pre-historic!

Imagine climbing up the side of one of these things. WOULD BE COOL.

we tried to make it look like the 20 yuan bill, but.. it didn't really look like it

All in all, a lovely day and a nice way to wind down our stay in Guilin.

Are you guys getting as tired of these independent travel posts as I am??  I promise, only two more after this.  And then we can talk about something else.
